FAPAV was founded in 1988 as a no-profit association for the protection of Intellectual Property, copyright and related rights and to contrast all the forms of illegal copying of movies and audiovisual contents in order to protect its own members and the entire audiovisual sector.
FAPAV’s founding and permanent members are: AGIS, ANICA, MPA and UNIVIDEO.
Some of the most important Italian companies of TV production and distribution of audiovisual and cinematographic works are FAPAV’s members.
FAPAV works in four key areas:
- Communication activities (with the aim to promote the culture of legality through press releases, campaigns and educational activities for children; FAPAV provides also technical support to its members for the compilation of technical documents related to the institutional activities of FAPAV’s members).
- Enforcement activities (FAPAV works closely with the Law enforcement and provides technical support to Public Prosecutors and Law enforcement offices which require).
- Legal activities (FAPAV provides advice to the movie industry, FAPAV Members and the Law Enforcement offices).
- Research and studies (FAPAV is a member of the network of all the international content protection organizations and is a reference at the institutional level for the film industry in Italy.
FAPAV, in collaboration with IPSOS ASI, published two important studies about the movie piracy in Italy, the first researches of its kind in Italy).
